Bourke, What we discovered

The day started out a bit on the chilly side from the cooling desert winds that picked during the night. If you have ever experienced and Australian Desert night wind you know exactly what I am talking about.

While waiting for everyone to get up, shower, breakfast, break camp and get ready for another day on the road, I got some photos from around the campgrounds.

For some time before we arrived in town the fickle weather gods had been dumping huge amounts of water into the catchments causing a bit of a nuisance for the residents.

The photos at right shows some of the scenery and wildlife we encountered during our very brief wander around Bourke and near surrounds.

The bridge photo shows the river somewhat swollen and encroaching on the banks. Ian commented that the last time he was here the river was about 3/4 the way up the bridge supports.

Australian weather can be very fickle and cruel. From baking drought to wild floods in a matter of days.
